It Comes Down to This

I would rather try
something with quite low prospects
than not try at all.

Hope opens many
doors of opportunity
otherwise closed off.

I want to expand
my life beyond subsistence,
thriving despite lack.

"than not try at all" how despairing to be pushed down by an invisible hand

HI JUDY - there is a fine line between surrendering and giving up. Surrender is a place of truth where-in we are ready to accept our powerlessness on one hand while being ready to redefine on the other hand - giving up is stagnant - empty with no direction. Surrender to what truths you must and take charge of whatever reality that truth shows you.

As always, words of wisdom! I often say that I lack the virtue of 'hope,' but I'm also driven to never give up. I, too, want to live, not merely survive. (taken from the song "I Gotta Be Me")
Peace,
Muff

Hope does open doors...I try to keep hope

Mere existence is never enough. "Where there's a will, there's a way". I think you will reach your goal Judy.

Patrick, yes, it is a despairing thought. I would love to know, though, how “continuing to try” manifests in someone like Patti, from her perspective, if you are still able to discern that.

Gail, you are absolutely correct. Indeed, discerning where I am on that fine line is my major task most of the time.

Muff, as you probably know by now, these poems are as much self pep talks as they are expressions of my reality.

Kim, I will always aim to keep opening doors, and hope is a necessary ingredient in that.

Karen, that's what hope means for me, to find ways of thriving.
