Which Is It to Be?

Fight or surrender,
the choice is callously stark.
The results are not.

Caught in the fury,
seeking safety from the storm,
to yield is tempting.

Fighting fear’s power
or embracing surrender,
which is it to be?

There are so many times when I, too, just want to give up. I'm beyond tired, my leg is wonky, and it's so tempting to just say 'let it be.' But I know that once I stop fighting, once I give up, I'll have no way of regaining ground. So, I lace up my gloves and charge on.
Peace,
Muff

HI JUDY - every day, sometimes moment to moment I have this battle of wills, forces, storms and rages within. And then, somehow I know. Either I can or I cannot and I become calm in the surrender of my truth.
Your poems are my truth.
Love and deep appreciation

An interesting choice... I'm reminded of the film "War Games." The computer concluded its exploration of the game, "The only winning move is not to play."

There's a difference between acknowledging defeat and simply not contending... You can't win if you don't play, but then again, you also can't lose.

For me, it's not either/or, black or white. My focus is neither really, I just try to find the calm amidst the storm.

This poem reflects the off-the-charts stress I am under when I often don't know how I am going to cope. Tomorrow's poem addresses the impact of the perfect storms I have been caught in.

Muff, lacing up turns out to be the only viable alternative.

Gail, that calm is worth finding.

Robert, the thing is life itself engages one in the game. How one plays it is another thing altogether.

Karen, that is the focus I've been aiming for, but have not always been successful.
