Ode to Glimmer

A self awareness
the probable is gloomy
threatens the spirit.

Like poet Keats odes,
I must find beauty even
while the outlook dims.

What glimmer I find
sustains me from breath to breath.
It makes life worthwhile.

Okay, reading this the day after, I find I must clarify that I did not intend to say that, under all circumstances, will I cling to life. That is an individual choice I respect for myself and others. I only meant that, while I can, I will seek meaning and light. When I can no longer find those, my decision might be quite different.

You reminded me of dear John Keats. He died so young (I think 26) and I believe that's why he tried to find beauty everywhere. Knowing he had so little time, he didn't want to waste any of it. My favorite of his is "To Autumn," with all its rich, lush imagery.
[I digressed -- a lot -- sorry]
I, too, keep seeking even the smallest ray of light. That's enough to dispel the darkness.
Peace,
Muff

Gail, thank you for thinking of me.
Muff, yes, he died young. In addition, his father died accidentally when JK was an infant. His mother died from TB while JK was in his teens. His favorite brother, whom JK nursed at his peril, also died as a young man from TB. From that unstinting care, JK himself came down with TB, which ultimately killed him. A financial bequest that would have removed his huge financial worries (he was penniless) was either willfully or negligently kept from him. His genius was so vast that he still left us with some of the most beautiful poetry ever written. And, despite his crushing series of tragedies, he still insisted on seeking beauty.
