There Must Be A Way

There may come a time,
a panic-stricken moment,
no way out appears.

There must be a way,
though narrow, dark, and rock-strewn,
to reach higher ground.

If all else fails one,
the only thing left may be
to take a deep breath.

I often find myself in that blind alley as well. When even breathing feels impossible, I close my eyes and pray.

I'm taking lots of deep breaths.

Be it emotional anguish, or physical pain and discomfort, deep breathing has become one of my major coping strategies...and it works!

Muff, prayer and deep breaths often coincide for me. Interesting that my deep breaths comment appears after yours. I guess I had not allowed your comment to publish yet before I made my comment.

Karen, it is also one of my major coping mechanisms.

A priest I knew was a Zen follower -- go figure. He was very much into the 'breath of the spirit,' and he tried to incorporate it into his homilies. I still remember how peaceful I felt after his meditations. Perhaps I should try it again.
Hope things start getting for you.
Peace,
Muff

Muff, Thomas Merton was both Catholic priest and follower of Zen-like principles. I don't know if you are aware of him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Merton
