Letting Go and Giving Up

This may be subtle.
It is okay to let go
but not to give up.

I can let go of
my prior expectations
of what life should be.

I do not give up
belief that I have power
to build a good life.

Judy - wonderful poem/words of inspiration and hope.
I call it surrender - which takes courage and faith and truth - from surrender we can start anew - with a new found freedom and understanding of that "is". It is deeper than acceptance, way deeper. In the accepting we fight and fuss and deny and bargain and pretend - but alas, once surrender comes, peace follows and freedom to take charge. Amen. When I worked as an addictions counselor one of my favorite groups to facilitate was the one on "The journey from acceptance to surrender".
Love to you

Sometimes I find that, for me, there's a fine line between letting go and giving up. I've been somewhat forced to let go of so much from my past life, but, like you, I refuse to give up. I continue to try to find new ways to keep me going forward.
Peace,
Muff

Sometimes I think letting go affords greater freedom to continue on.

Gail, it was after reviewing some 12-step literature that I was moved to write this poem. There is so much wisdom in that program, and your discussion here adds so much to it. The difference between acceptance and surrender, wow, that is core stuff, and you explain it so marvelously.

Muff, we both obviously loved the best of our previous lives, which is why it is so difficult to let go. But, then, those same qualities that created those lives for us are precisely the ones that enable us to seek new ways to keep moving forward in a meaningful fashion.

Karen, absolutely true. But then why is it so hard sometimes to let go? I guess what the mind knows to be true the heart can't always accept.
